Making a Musical: The Future of British Musical Theatre
A podcast featuring music and exclusive interviews with the writers and creatives of new musicals. Submissions are open to musicals at all stages of creation, aiming for development and/or premiere in the UK.
Musical Bites
A lunchtime series of readings that provide new musical theatre writers an opportunity to share a 45-min except of their piece. Submissions are open to new British musicals that have not received a professional production.
Development Fund
An in-house development fund to provide grants from an open call to support, commission, and workshop new and emerging writers to support the development of new writing and emerging playwrights.
Overture
An exciting new development scheme that aims to develop the skills and practices of underrepresented musical theatre writing teams across the UK, whilst building relationships with venues, and other leading UK talent.
Submissions open for MTFestUK 2024
MTFestUK is a unique festival that provides a platform to showcase and celebrate new musical theatre. Writing teams from all backgrounds and from across the UK and internationally are encouraged to apply with their exciting new work.

Workshops and masterclasses
We will be running a regular series of free and paid workshops and masterclasses from some of the best in the business.
This will include the chance to participate and learn from some of the industry’s leading talents.
From musical theatre performers, designers, writers and lyricists, producers, and makers this series will cover all aspects of theatre and performance.

creatives connect
An informal networking opportunity to meet fellow theatre-makers, share ideas and form future collaborations in The Other Gin Palace.
Anyone is welcome – come have a drink and meet creatives at all stages in their careers!

Open mic nights
We will be launching a series of regular open-mic nights to give new and unheard voices of music, spoken word and comedy a chance to be seen and heard.
This will include celebrating and encouraging under-represented voices in our industry.
Programming Submissions
Discovering, nurturing and reimaging drama and musical theatre is at the heart of The Other Palace. So if you have a complete show / a script or a work in progress – we want to hear from you. Whether it’s ready to be seen by an audience, or in it’s early stages and needs research, development and workshopping – get in touch and see how we can help!
We meet regularly to review, discuss and listen to all submissions we receive and if we can help, we will be in touch to discuss your project with you.
For submissions we recommend you include the following information:
- A short synopsis
- An overview of the show to date / where it’s at
- A copy of the script (if you have it!)
- Two contrasting songs (if applicable) that best show off your piece
- Details of the team working on the project (creatives & actors).
