It should’ve been Buddy and Clyde – not Bonnie and Clyde.

WD Jones was recruited by Clyde Barrow on Christmas Eve 1933. He was only 16 years old and was supposed to be delivered back safely to his home in time for Christmas dinner. But with murder on his hands, Clyde said WD had to go on the run with him. WD was so taken with Clyde, he was honoured to become Clyde’s “Buddy”. It could’ve been Buddy and Clyde. But there was Bonnie. And when three became five, they were the Barrow Gang.  WD felt as though he was living in hell. Was it “love that put a gun in his hand?” Or had he grown up wrong, like his mamma said? He was lost and confused. He felt he was going crazy.

WD taking on different disguises to avoid capture was very rarely identified and became known as the “mysterious 5th member of the Barrow Gang.’

When WD was captured by Sheriff Smoot and paraded in front of the press  he was invited to tell his story. A chance to stage the cabaret he always wanted to star in.

This is his story. In his own words. In his own style.

With music and vintage video footage.

Produced by Tristan Pegg and Linnie Reedman
