The story of a writer, suffering a chronic case of writer’s block. He takes himself to a café to people watch, hoping that the change of scenery might spark some inspiration, and finds himself surrounded by a bunch of ludicrously larger than life characters, from geriatric drag queens to dancing waiters, all of which seem far too eccentric to be real. As he grows more and more consumed by his work, he becomes unable to distinguish between fiction and reality, and the characters he has created start appearing in his daily life. As things become increasingly absurd, he is taken on a journey of self-discovery, leading him to the underground queer nightlife scene in the speakeasys of 1920’s Paris.
Life Imitates Art is an absurdist piece of meta theatre, featuring jazz, dance, drag and existential wonder, brought to you by a company of young queer creatives from East 15’s Physical Theatre and World Performance courses.
